Yes I am feminist

I know there are a lot of negative feelings attached to the word “feminism”. People have formed opinions based on what they hear or what their friends/family and everyone else thinks. You all are definitely entitled to your own opinions, but do not form opinions based on incomplete knowledge. You know, they say little kniwledge is a dangerous thing. You can still choose to dislike feminism, but at least with some knowledge.

And yes, I am feminist – Otherwise I wouldn’t put my effort into such a thing. No I do not hate men. Why does a movement for women become so misunderstood to the point where it is still about men? And menimism? I wouldn’t exactly mind menimism if it was men bonding together to fight hyper-masculinity and helping trans men, moc, male rape victims etc. But it is literally just a „movement“ against women having equal rights.

My response to the „I am not feminist“ phenomenon…

First of all, it is clear you don’t know what feminism is. But I am not going to explain it to you. You can google it. But here is what I think you should know.

You are insulting every woman who was forcibly restrained in a jail cell with a feeding tube down her throat for your right to vote today, less than 100 years ago.

You are undermining every woman who fought to make marital rape a crime (It was legal until 1993)

You are spitting on the legacy of every woman who fought for women to be allowed  to own property (1848). For the abolition of slavery and the rise of the labor union. For the right to divorce from an unhealthy nightmare relationship. For women to be allowed to have access to birth control. For middle and upper class women to be allowed to work outside the home. To make domestic violence a crime, it is still legal in many parts of the world. To make workplace sexual harassment crime.

In short, you do not know what you speak of. You reap rewards of these women’s sacrifices every day of your life. When you grin with your cutesy sign about how you are not a feminist, you ignorantly spit on the sacred struggle of the past 200 years. You bite the hand that has fed you FREEDOM, SAFETY AND VOICE.
