At Beat Sexism, we’ve spent the past eight years documenting and addressing issues of sexism, gender discrimination, and inequality in the Czech Republic and beyond. Today, we’re reaching out to invite you to participate in an important research project addressing the underreported and devastating phenomenon of drink spiking.
For this research, we define drink spiking as the act of adding alcohol or drugs to another person’s drink without their knowledge and/or consent (Hellewell, 2023). It is a silent crime with long-lasting impacts, yet it remains overlooked in discussions about public safety and gender-based violence.
In 2021, we initiated the conversation about drink spiking on our social media platforms. Through that campaign, we collected countless hidden stories that exposed the destructive toll this act has on individuals. This revelation underscored the urgency of understanding and addressing the issue in a more structured way.
Our current project marks the first step toward comprehensively understanding the scope of drink spiking in Czechia. By launching this sociological research, we aim to gather data on:
The insights gathered will help shape future initiatives to create safer environments in bars, clubs, and pubs. Nightlife should be about joy and connection, not fear and harm.
We invite you to take part in this crucial research by completing our anonymous survey. Your responses will help illuminate the realities of drink spiking and guide meaningful change.
Drink spiking is not just an isolated issue—it’s a societal challenge that demands awareness, understanding, and action. Together, we can challenge the status quo and create safer spaces for everyone.
